"The course was facilitated by the Director of Worksmart Australia, Michael Bunting, whose extensive knowledge in the area of leadership was apparent throughout. The course can be quite challenging in parts and Michael created a safe and supportive environment in which to share and learn."

Surprising Leadership Findings
A recent study conducted by bestselling leadership authors, John Zenger and Joseph Folkman, showed some surprising results. They collected 360° feedback and profitability data on a group of leaders in a large bank. They found: the poor leaders (rated in the bottom 10% by their direct reports and peers) lost money for the company and drove customers awayThe average to good leaders (the middle 80%) made a reasonable profitand the top 10% leaders made nearly double the profit of the entire group of average to good leaders. The difference in profitability results between an average to good leader and a top 10% leader are staggering.

Leadership Development is Character Development
Leadership is a relationship between those who aspire to lead and those who chose to follow. Sometimes the relationship is one-to-one. Sometimes it's one-to-many. But regardless of whether the number is one or one thousand, leadership is a relationship.

The Myth of Effective Leadership Techniques
A typical question prospective clients ask us is, "What leadership tools and techniques do you use?" This is certainly a relevant question, however it is also a revealing one. While effective tools and techniques are critical, these are not what make development programs ? ours or any other ? truly effective. A more insightful and penetrating question is, "How can you ensure that our leaders will actually practice the tools and techniques with the right intent, at the right time and in the right context?" When it comes to leadership development, the focus ultimately needs to be on the user and the techniques.

Exemplary Leaders know themselves. To become self-aware takes courage and commitment, but the leader who knows oneself and others will have an enormous, positive impact upon an organisation.

Practice, Practice, Practice
A few years back we did some research with Lillas Brown of the University of Saskatchewan on learning and leadership. We were looking at whether there was a relationship between how leaders learned and how effective they were at leading. What we found was most intriguing. We discovered that it didn’t really matter what the learning style was. Someone could be an active experimenter, an observer of others, a person who engages in emotional dialogues, or someone who loves to read or be in the classroom. The style is not the thing. What did matter was the extent to which individuals engaged in whatever style worked for them. The more they engaged in learning the more successful they were as leaders.

The Genius of the Enneagram
Marshall Goldsmith is arguably the world's best leadership / business coach. He gets paid huge amounts of money to help leaders change their behavior and to become more effective. What I love about his work is that he understands human change. Marshall typically focuses on only one behavioural change over an extended period of time, not 2 or 5 or 10 behaviours, just one....
